A wired Ethernet network using a switch shares bandwidth, is there anything like this for wireless networks?

Am I right in thinking that if you were to wire 4 computers up to a switch they wouldn't have to share the bandwidth between them? Is there anything like that for a wireless network or do they always have to share bandwidth between the networked devices?
